Sequence of Events in Corneal Neovascularization,y few experimental models (18,63,106,108,116,143,194,263–265,416,524,666,694). The endothelial cell-specific tubular organelles (Weibel-Palade bodies) that contain a specific glycoprotein involved in blood coagulation (von Willebrand factor) (523) have been observed in growing corneal blood vessels (326,504).

Current Concept of Corneal Angiogenesis,al angiogenesis have been identified during the past two decades. Despite the possible existence of non-inflammatory angiogenesis in the cornea, convincing evidence to support such a variety of neovascularization in this tissue remains to be presented.

Triadafilos Triadafilopoulos,Craig D. Smithin humans (28,102,428,430) and during the 1920’s and 1930’s animals were used to study new vessel formation in the cornea (191,389–391,733). However, the first attempts to investigate the pathogenesis of corneal vascularization in depth were only made in 1949 by Campbell and Michaelson (116) and Cogan (143).
