描述.Cooperating Heterogeneous Systems. provides an in-depthintroduction to the issues and techniques surrounding the integrationand control of diverse and independent software components.Organizations increasingly rely upon diverse computer systems toperform a variety of knowledge-based tasks. This presents technicalissues of interoperability and integration, as well as philosophicalissues of how cooperation and interaction between computationalentities is to be realized. Cooperating systems are systems that worktogether towards a common end. The concepts of cooperation must berealized in technically sound system architectures, having a uniformmeta-layer between knowledge sources and the rest of the system. Thelayer consists of a family of interpreters, one for each knowledgesource, and meta-knowledge. A system architecture to integrate andcontrol diverse knowledge sources is presented. The architecture isbased on the meta-level properties of the logic programming languageProlog. BlackLog: FLiPSiDE as a Process-Oriented Prolog for cooperating heterogeneous systems. When we remove the complexity of adaptive control, reduce the integrating meta-programs to a utilitarian level, and set our sights on solving distributed Prolog problems we distill a blackboard-based model for a distributed Prolog: BlackLog.
