Evaluation of Al2O3, Al2O3-ZrO2 and Partially Stabilized ZrO2 for MHD Applicationsigned to identify suitable ceramic systems for the MHD applications. Seeded flame plasma, fused coal ash and severe temperature cycling have been made use of for laboratory simulation. Data generated from such experiments and discussions thereof form the subject matter of this paper.

Influence of the Surface Treatment of Graphitized Carbon Fibers on the Curing of an Amine Catalyzed the dependence of the crosslinking process on the concentration of the surface species. The surface groups themselves act as a catalyst: there exists an optimal concentration below which an activation of the curing process occurs. Above that concentration, a retardation of the curing process has been detected.

Interface Characteristics of Isothermally Aged High Temperature Graphite Fiber/PMR-15 Compositesent materials and failed composites as determined by ESCA and the mechanical properties of the isothermally aged composites will be presented. The composites examined represent a series of graphite fibers of various moduli and strengths in a polyimide matrix, PMR-15, exposed to flowing air at 316°C for 2000 hours.
