描述Biotechnology has been labelled as one of the key technologiesof the last two decades of the 20th Century, offering boundlesssolutions to problems ranging from food and agricultural production topharmaceutical and medical applications, as well as environmental andbioremediation problems. Biological processes, however, are complexand the prevailing mechanisms are either unknown or poorly understood.This means that adequate techniques for data acquisition and analysis,leading to appropriate modeling and simulation packages that can besuperimposed on the engineering principles, need to be routine toolsfor future biotechnologists. The present volume presents a masterlysummary of the most recent work in the field, covering:instrumentation systems; enzyme technology; environmentalbiotechnology; food applications; and metabolic engineering.

https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-319-78599-8e membrane reactor. Simulations were carried out using a fourth-order Runge-Kutta integration method and with varying kinetic expressions. As in other reported cases, the dynamic of this reactor is mainly controlled by the kinetics of the reaction.

Membrane Bioreactor with Immobilized Lipase: Modelling and Computational Considerationsses are employed to simplify the general mass balances to substrate and enzyme forms whereas the rate expressions are derived on the basis of reasonable mechanisms postulated for the enzyme-catalyzed reaction and the enzyme deactivation/rearrangement.
