A. L. Clavell,J. C. Burnett Jr. us to compute the normals to the surface. We present a new method for rigid registration when surfaces are described by points and normals. It does not depend on the initial positions of the surfaces, deals with occlusion in a strict way and takes advantage of the normal information..Results are presented on real images.

Visualisation of Multimodal Images for Neurosurgical Planning and Guidancebecome less sensitive to small surface extraction errors. A scheme which intermixes the volume rendering for some objects and surface rendering for others in the same scene is also presented. We show examples to illustrate each method in the context of preoperative surgical planning and intraoperative guidance.
