Modelling of geological discontinuities for reserve estimation purposes at Neves-Corvo, Portugal,The structure of a geological discontinuity modelling system, and its implementation as part of an integrated geological database and reserve estimation system, is described. The application of this system at the Neves-Corvo mine in southern Portugal is discussed.

The model predicts the evolution in time of this degradation potential field, and so enables the evolving topography of a landform or basin floor to be calculated. The model is implemented for simulation, using a finite-difference approximation over an irregular triangular mesh.
