Some Problems of the Use of P-Wave Dynamics to Find the Velocity Profile of the Upper MantleThis paper presents a numerical study of effect on the amplitude-distance curve of body waves caused by a discontinuity in the velocity gradient at a certain depth. The study was made with an elementary model; two layers with different gradients. The results can be used for more complicated models.

The Effect of Focal Depth in the Crust on the Wave Field in the Initial Part of a SeismogramDetermination of the depth of a source is based on analysis of the first phases of the recording — in particular, on the difference between the arrival times pP — P and sP — P. But the first arrivals can also contain other converted and reflected waves which complicate the wave field in the vicinity of the first arrivals.
