Using Sensitivities for Flow Analysis,sessed for viscous, chemically reacting flows with comparisons to theoretical and central-difference results. The sensitivity results are used to prioritize design variables by level of relative influence. Being linear, the sensitivity solutions require 10% or less of the computational effort needed to compute flow solutions.

Process Modeling and Optimization: Issues and Challenges,mold cavity is computed using a pseudo-concentration technique. Computations are presented for free surface turbulent fluid flow coupled to heat transfer and phase-change. The methodology has the robustness and cost effectiveness needed to tackle complex industrial applications.

Submarine Landslides and Tsunamisr example, error estimates which are used to perform the mesh refinement can be used to get estimates on how well the objective function and its gradient are being approximated. These estimates can be used in selecting appropriate stopping criteria in the algorithm.
