The Crush Performance of Composite Structurescing at the small end. Plate specimens failed by catastrophic splitting and buckling with minimal energy absorption. The inability of plate specimens to support stable crush is thought to be due to the lack of transverse restraining forces in the crush zone.

Strengthening Mechanisms in Discontinuous SiC/Al Compositestransfer mechanism and the texture difference had no effect on the strength. The thermal elastic residual stress was on average in tension (for whisker composite) and it reduced the tensile yield stress of the whisker composite.

The Manufacture of Composite Aerofoil Section Models for Dynamic Wind Tunnel Testsechniques in an attempt to reduce manufacturing costs. Both models met the design requirements but the latter demonstrated both the potential for substantial costs savings and the ability to make design modifications without incurring significant re-cooling costs.
