We combine heuristics for the first two problems with an exact algorithm for the third to solve a moderate-sized instance comparing maps of cereal genomes.

Lower Bounds for Maximum Parsimony with Gene Order Data, formalize the problem of computing the circular ordering lower bound, when the tree topologies are generated bottom-up, as a ., and give a polynomial-time 3-approximation algorithm for it. This is a special case of the more general . and has not previously been studied, to the best of our knowledge.

A Partial Solution to the C-Value Paradox,parent than real, at least for organisms with relatively small genomes like those considered here. A complete resolution of the C-value paradox will require the consideration and inclusion of organisms with large genomes into analyses like those presented here.
