Coherent Optical Communication,ately 20?dB (homodyne detection can reach 23?dB), allowing for longer distance transmission under the same power. Furthermore, coherent optical communication systems are more conductive to the suppression of atmospheric turbulence and channel fading. This chapter introduces the concepts behind coherent optical communication.
