Constants and functional reductionave been restricted to the case that meson fields are frozen to its vacuum expectation value. A complete investigation of Quantum Flavor Dynamics would require the explicit baryon field as introduced in Sect. 5.1 as well as the non-perturbative (solitonic) meson fields, especially the hedgehog (4.3) for the pseudoscalar field.

Allowing also large amplitudes one realizes that this model possesses special localized solutions: topological solitons. These are then interpreted as baryons.
