Komparative Verfahren und Grounded TheoryThe morphology of the carotid body’s vasculature is one of the organ’s most distinctive features. Blood vessels that determine the environment of the chemoreceptors are so large and numerous that more than one fourth of carotid body’s volume is blood.

Application of the Chemiluminescent Method to Carotid Body for Detecting Choline and Acetylcholine, pyrolysis gas chromatography and mass spectometry (Fidone et al. 1977) contrast with those values suggested by bioassays (Eyzaguirre et al., 1965: Jones, 1975). Such different observations do not help to clarify the role of Ach in the sensory transduction of this receptor.
