Methods and problems in the study of turnover; a very brief survey,stances (proteins in general perhaps) present at a particular instant in order to follow the survival of that same set of molecules as time proceeds. The degradation of the molecule or class of molecule usually follows exponential kinetics, and can conveniently be described in terms of a ‘half-life’
