描述The application of magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) to thecardiovascular system is a relatively new phenomenon. Its ability tononinvasively examine myocardial metabolism has led to its use toanswer basic questions in animal models of normal and diseasedmyocardium. Extension of these investigations into the realm of humanmyocardial metabolism has been made possible by the advent ofrelatively high-field magnets with spectroscopy capabilities andsufficient bore dimensions to allow human studies. While ongoing andfuture studies promise to enhance our understanding of myocardialmetabolism, their success will, in part, depend on a thoroughunderstanding of the technical and biologic aspects of cardiovascularMRS, as well as the current state of research in the many areasencompassed by this discipline. .It is with concept that the present monograph has been written. Theorganization and content should lend this book to both the beginningreader who is interested but not conversant in cardiovascular MRS, aswell as to the active investigator who wishes to refer to a volumethat deals with the many issues of this field in a concise butcomplete manner.
