Measuring Cerebral Hemodynamics and Energy Metabolism by Near-Infrared Spectroscopy,before brain injury occurs. Near-infrared spectroscopy has long been considered ideal for neuromonitoring because the technology is noninvasive, safe, and portable. This chapter will present the methodology and application of one NIRS approach, based on tracer kinetic modeling, for quantifying cerebral hemodynamics and energy metabolism.
