2D Modeling of Electromagnetic Telemetry, wireless communication system is near the drill bit implemented as a voltage gap source or a toroid, which can be viewed in numerical analysis as an electric dipole or as a magnetic current source circulating the drill string, respectively.

3D Modeling of Electromagnetic Telemetry,lling are complicate 3D systems. More specifically, as one compares the spatial dimensions of the entire computational domain (tens of thousands of feet) and the fine details such as the gap source in the borehole (a fraction of an inch), the EMT system can be considered as an extremely multiscale structure.
