Encyclopaedia of Mathematical Sciencesal introduction of the bond graph concept. Since this extension known as multibond graphs, is especially suited for modelling the three-dimensional (3D) motion of multibody systems (MBS) in mechanics, its presentation has been postponed to this chapter.

The questions this chapter attempts to answer are: how can software support bond graphbased physical systems modelling and in which phases of the modelling process can it do so. Before going into details, an important general observation has to be pointed out.
