The Legacy of Chernobyl,Five years have passed, but life in the Zone has not changed. Ignoring all good sense, three blocks of the Chernobyl power station continued to operate until 1991, when the Ukrainian Supreme Soviet decided to close them down. The most dangerous of these three blocks, Block 1, has already been powered down.
