Systematic studies on the phospholipid-splitting enzymes (phospholipases, P’Lases) started, however, only some 30 years ago, initially on soluble enzymes (pancreatic P’Lase A and venoms). Only later were cellular-soluble and membrane-bound P’Lases discovered and characterized.
