Zicsi (1954) reported such damage to various crops, and Edwards (unpublished) noted that earthworms destroyed a large part of a lettuce crop in this manner.

Biology,It should be emphasized that our present knowledge of the life cycles of even quite common earthworms is very inadequate, and requires much more study.
