Kinder- und Jugendliteraturforschung 1998/99rd deviation): serum osteocalcin before vacation 15.9 ±5.5 ng/ml; after vacation 13.6 ± 4.0 ng/ml (p<0.05). Discussion: after exposure to natural sunshine radiation without prior adaptation a significant decrease of serum osteocalcin was found reflecting a lower activity of osteoblasts, presumably a result of lower bone turnover.

This is a critical issue since both deficiency and toxicity can produce abnormal calcium and phosphorus metabolic responses. Long term feeding of vitamin D at 4,000 IU per kg of diet will produce signs of toxicity in some domestic animals (2).
