Apical Growth of Streptomycetes and Fungi,though the strategies are more difficult than for cylindrical growth of prokaryotes. Mycelial organisms use these mechanisms to burrow through soil or rotting wood. By using the combination of apical growth and branching, these organisms can exploit resources effectively throughout a three-dimensional solid substratum.
