Cloning of the Gene for the Restriction Enzyme AbrI from Azospirillum Brasilense ATCC 29711, specific DNA- fragments of .. . 2971 1. This DNA was used to screen a cosmid gene library from .. . 29711 for the .I gene. One clone, pGBS53, yields a 8 kb .RI fragment, which produces a strong hybridization signal.

Mutation in Azospirillum Brasilense,ty of physiological conditions always with negative results. Treatments with UV rays + Acriflavine and UV rays + 5-Bromouracil were negative as well. Ethyl methanesulfonate and Nitroseguanidine were the only mutagens tested which gave clearly positive results. On the base of these results the conclusion that . is an SOS. species is forwarded.

A soluble dissimilatory nitrite reductase preparation also catalyzes the formation of nitric oxide which is probably an artifact of the cell-free system. Root Colonization and Plant Growth of Grasses and Cereals in Unsterile Soil and Nitrogenase (C2H2) etween 4 and 88%. Nitrogenase activity followed a log-normal distribution within rank oder of plants and was higher with . than with .. With maize seddlings a linear relationship was shown between log N.-ase activity and log shoot length increments. The model appears to be suitable to screen for optimal “nis” phenotypes within cultivars.
