Introduction,compounds which adsorb onto the hydroxy apatite, radioisotope bone scans have been used for both benign and malignant diseases in paediatrics. The paediatric skeleton is maturing throughout childhood with growth occurring principally at the growth plates of the long bones.

Arthritis, make the diagnosis in superficial joints, e.g. the hand or ankle, and the well-recognized possibility of a normal three-phase bone scan in acute septic arthritis of the hip. The task of bone scans is to assess the presence or absence of osteomyelitis in the adjacent bone.

Examination for Parasites: Basic Proceduresther from blood culture, culture from surgical exploration or the discovery of “sterile” pus at surgery. The only exceptions to this are certain cases of spinal abnormalities in which there is controversy about the con-dition and in which no surgical exploration was undertaken. The same applies to the cases of sacro-ileitis.
