Learning to Learn Through Language,ge before they come to school?’ In other words, it was the functions of language that they were concerned with, in particular its potential as a resource for meaning, rather than its sounds, its words and its structures, although they recognized that there can be no meanings without sounds and words and structures to express them.

English and Chinese: Similarities and Differences, of things, abstractions and so on—are all semantic categories: they have evolved as part of language, and they get their meaning from being part of language. So in introducing these talks, I used the words ‘a(chǎn) linguistic interpretation of how people learn’.
