Graham McAllister,Gareth R. Whiteed in that they yield values of the parameters which exist as the gas passes the exit plane of the generator. To determine gas properties as they exist at the test site or at specific locations in the cross section of the flow field requires measurement of parameters within the stream itself.

Introduction,The arc plasma has achieved significant importance in a diversity of research and industrial applications within the past twenty years. Of major interest is the use of the arc plasma for flame spraying and as a heat source for material testing. The range of plasma arc applications is illustrated in Fig. 1.

The Plasma Arc,Plasma is a gaseous cloud composed of free electrons, positive ions, neutral atoms and molecules. It has been referred to as “the 4th state of matter” because of its unique properties. Its behavior involves complex interactions between electromagnetic and mechanical forces.
