Excitation of the groundwave,de. At that point, a fraction of the incident field is converted to a groundwave mode, and the rest continues. Analagous to reflection and transmission coefficients, an excitation coefficient gives the fraction of the incident field that is converted to the groundwave mode.

Application of the GTD to a concentric, isotropic ionosphere,A concentric, isotropic ionosphere is probably the simplest example of an ionospherically reflected wave diffracted by the earth. It is also probably one of the few cases where application of the GTD gives an analytical solution. It has the further advantage that a rigorous solution exists for comparison.
