The Macrolides,nically in the 1950’s. The most widely used member, erythromycin, still enjoys an enviable reputation as an effective and virtually non-toxic antibacterial agent. A recent appraisal of erythromycin appears in the Scottish Medical Journal (1977).

Metronidazole,d, that the agent became established as a powerful anti-anaerobic drug. Its activity, particularly against the obligate anaerobes, recently reviewed by Ingham et al. (1975a), places it amongst the drugs of first choice in these infections.
