Religious Meaning and Experienceor do not constitute apparent awareness of something external to one’s own consciousness. For example, the experience of ‘seeing a tree in front of me’ is (even if it should turn out to be hallucinatory) intentional, whilst the experiences of feeling unaccountably cheerful or feeling a generalised anxiety are non-intentional.
