Consequently, although many amphibole species have been distinguished, mostly on a chemical basis, it is difficult to relate the geologic occurrences to physical and chemical principles.

Compositional Variations of the Amphiboles,e-Mg; Ca; and Na. Of these three groups, calcic amphiboles predominate, both with regard to the number of species recognized and absolute abundance.
