Sites of Alkaloid Formation,ding ultimately to an entire plantlet. Some leaves or pieces of stem can readily form roots. Therefore, owing to this metabolic versatility, one might expect that alkaloids can be formed in all cells of a plant. This may be the case in some plants, such as . (castor bean), but it is not universal.

Genetic Control of Alkaloid Production,pse of eighty years occurred before the rules governing the inheritance of chemical characters were properly understood. In the meantime, hundreds of new examples were added, and in most cases the genetic transmission of the chemical character was a dominant trait (Nowacki, 1964a,b, 1968).
