A survey of Clustering Algorithmss prior to chronic treatment with barbiturates also partially prevented the development of tolerance to pentobarbital. 6-Hydroxydopamine pretreatment had little effect on the signs of physical dependence produced by ethanol. The possible dissociation of tolerance and dependence and the role of noradrenergic systems in these phenomena is discussed.

Opiate Receptors and Endogenous Opioid Peptides in Tolerance and Dependencend the peptides is considered and a hypothesis formulated. Experimental proof is presented as far as it has become available. The possible mechanisms involved in the development of tolerance and dependence for alcohol, barbiturates and opiates are compared briefly.

Alterations of Macromolecule Biosynthesis after Chronic Administration of Opiates and Ethanoldiscrete synaptic membrane proteins. Results from other laboratories suggest a general decrease in macromolecule biosynthesis with long term ethanol consumption. These results are discussed in terms of the possible roles of protein synthesis in the effects of chronic opiate and ethanol administration.
