Godfried Augenbroe,Charles Eastmanan Foundation for Shipbuilding Advancement (JAFSA) inaugurated an R&D Committee in June 1985 in order to expedite research into an innovative ship that can be propelled by use of superconductive electro-magnetic thrusters. Our project team is now engaged in construction of a 150-ton testcraft, which will be launched in 1990.

Computer-assisted instruction in chemistry, superconducting electronics is reviewed with some historical backgrounds. “Quantum flux parametron” and three terminal devices are given as examples of 2nd generation technology in superconducting electronics. A tentative goal and the state of the art of high-Tc superconductors are summarized for superconducting LSIs at Liq. N. temperature.

Current Situation of R&D on Superconductive Power Application Technologies Carried out by Engineerinrconducting generators, two types of refrigeration systems, and superconductor for each type of generator were conducted. Study on the measuring methods for characteristics of oxide superconducting materials was also conducted.
