Chinesische Medizin für die westliche Weltrpose of our work is to discover applications in materials studies for which acoustic microscopy is suitable, and then to exploit the technique in tackling problems in those areas. The microscopes have been operating for a little under one year now, and in these Proceedings we summarise our progress in that time.

Chinesische Medizin für die westliche WeltThe concept of a planar acoustic microscope lens to be used in the standard geometry of a scanning acoustic microscope (I) has been discussed previously (2,3). In this paper we wish to look a little more closely at the focussing mechanism of this lens and to consider some further extensions of the concept.
