Quark Statics,ic effective action model for quark dynamics, and from this model to the leadinq log model for the static qq? force problem. In the second part, I discuss the analysis of the leading log model, with emphasis on recent analytic investigations which give the leading behavior of the model at small and at large qq? separations.

Topological Charge in Lattice Gauce Theory,y. I give a simple expression for the topological charge of lattice gauge theories in four dimensions and I present the preliminary result of a Monte Carlo calculation of the distribution of this quantity on a small lattice In SU(2) gauge theory. The measured distribution is compatible with the dilute gas picture of certain pseudoparticles.
