Mother and Father,William Bradford Shockley, a genius of the kind that appears on the Earth only every few centuries, was born on Sunday, February 13, 1910 at 69 Victoria St., London. His independent and free-thinking American born parents, May Bradford and William Hillman Shockley, married in 1908, and lived in London from 1909 to 1913.

The Son Billy,The family returned to California in 1913. Shockley did not enter elementary school at the usual age, however, because, as he frequently said: “.” May and William Hillman loved their son but they had their own ideas about how the child should be brought up.
