About a Possible Cause of Viscoelastic Turbulencennel flow in a plane capillary is investigated. The spatial variation of shear velocity causes a complication of the theory which is avoided by first studying the stability of plane Couette-flow between parallel plates. Then it is shown that the same mechanism for instability, found here, is also responsible for instability of plane channel flow.
