Hypothalamic Control of the Secretion of Melanocyte-Stimulating Hormone (MSH) and Adrenocorticotropns of it were often put to a multitude of uses. Examples abound, among them the heme proteins which serve as oxygen carriers and redox catalysts, the variations of the theme of the steroid nucleus, and, the subject of this essay, adrenocorticotropin (ACTH) and the melanocyte-stimulating hormones (MSH’s).

Studies on the Role of Thyrotropin Releasing Hormone (TRH) in Man,ture (1) was quickly followed by reports that TRH also stimulated prolactin release when injected intravenously in humans (2,3). These findings led to studies in our laboratory which focused on the possible role of TRH as a physiological regulator of prolactin secretion in man. Aspects of this work form the basis of the present report.
