Salmonella Mutagenicity Testing of Benzidine, 4,4″-Diaminoterphenyl, 4-Dimethylaminoazobenzene and 4t S9 was compared with DDT-induced rat and 3-methylcholanthrene (MC)-induced guinea pig S9, the latter producing the greatest numbers of revertants per microgram of BZD, DAT and CDA. A Comparison of the Effects of Uninduced Mouse, Uninduced Rat and Aroclor-induced Rat Liver S9 on Reinduced mouse and uninduced rat liver S9. For the purpose of comparison we also included our own induced rat liver S9, prepared according to the method of Ames .. (1975) from Fischer 344 rats which had been treated with Aroclor 1254 at 500 mg/kg over a five day period.

The Genotoxicity of Benzidine and 4-Dimethylaminoazobenzene: A Survey of the Literature has in excess of 200 listings. A summary to illustrate the range of assay systems which have been used to investigate the genotoxicity of these compounds was compiled and has been used to generate tables 1 and 2. The classification of the genetic system was basically that used by EMIC for its assay system/biological endpoint category.

Mutagenicity of BZD, DAT, DAB and CDA in the Bacterial Mutagenicity Testconcentration and the absence or presence of the S9 mix..In addition it was found that the volume of S9 mix added per plate altered the mutagenic response seen with BZD and that S9 mix prepared from uninduced Syrian hamster was the most effective of the S9 mixes used.

Studies on the Metabolic Activation of Benzidine and its Terphenyl Derivative to Mutagens in the SalThe activation of benzidine (BZD) and 4,4″-diaminoterphenyl (DAT) to mutagens in the Ames Salmonella plate incorporation test was investigated. A Comparison of the Mutagenicity of Benzidine and 4,4″-Diaminoterphenyl with Uninduced Mouse and Ratereas 4,4″-diaminoterphenyl (DAT) induces Zymbal’s gland tumours. Evidence from bacterial mutagenicity studies (Garner .. 1975; Morton .., 1979) and from DNA binding studies (Kennelly .., 1984a) suggests that for BZD the ultimate carcinogenic moiety is not BZD itself but an activated form of the compound after metabolism.
